How do you prevent car accidents?

At a time where everyone is so distracted behind the wheel, safety is always a very important concern. Even a small fender bender can be costly. Practicing safety at a time when the road is so unpredictable is a good idea. You never know who or what you may encounter, so it is good to be prepared.

10 Tips to prevent car accidents

Car accidents claim more than 3,000 lives every year in America. That is about nine people who are killed every single day, a startling statistic. However, you do not have to become one of those statistics. There are things you can do to ensure that you come home to your family safely every night.

They include:

  1. Make sure your car is road ready by keeping up the maintenance of the vehicle. You can also check for the wear on your tires. Make sure they are not old.
  2. Focus on the road. Do not use your cell phone or any other devices while you are behind the wheel.
  3. Remember to always wear your seatbelt. It is not just for you but every passenger in your car.
  4. Do not tailgate. The last thing you want to do is rear-end a driver. Remember the three-second rule of cushion between you and the other drivers.
  5. Do not drink alcohol or take any drugs before getting behind the wheel. This can lead to you being impaired while driving and you will not be focused on the road.
  6. Always be aware- pull out into traffic as slow as possible. Look for any possible blind spots. Keep your eyes scanning the area ahead of you. That will increase your chances of identifying any possible problems ahead and avoiding them.
  7. Do not drive in the fast lane. Driving in the other lanes will offer more escape routes if you encounter any problems.
  8. Do not be a speed demon when you drive. Slowing down and maintaining a constant speed is also a good way to prevent car accidents.
  9. Always drive protectively- be aware of your surroundings and what other drivers may be doing so you can react if necessary.
  10. Do not be distracted with what is going on inside of your car. Do not try to get items that may be on your floor. Also, do not let your children or pets distract you by climbing around in your car. They should always be secured in their own seats.

Practicing safety on the road should always be a top priority for anyone who chooses to get behind the wheel. This will ensure that when you drive your car, that you will make it home safely.
